Madison Community Foundation is a community trust established in 1942 to build and administer assets and to distribute the earnings for the benefit of people and places in Dane County and beyond.
MCF is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) public charity, as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Charitable distributions can be made to any charity throughout the United States. Community impact grantmaking is directed to efforts within Dane County, Wisconsin.
Diligence and attention are given to managing the investment of charitable assets, which have grown to more than $350 million. An investment committee which consists of knowledgeable volunteers and board members works closely with investment partners to manage both a diversified investment portfolio and a socially responsive portfolio. Commonfund, the only nonprofit investment management firm in the country, administers the diversified portfolio. They oversee more than $26 billion in assets for colleges, universities, foundations and charitable organizations. Boston Trust Walden has been a leader in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing since 1975. Managing more the $9 billion in client assets, the firm is employee-owned and remains independent.
