Apply for a Grant from AFFW

YWeb class 2017
The YWCA Madison's YWeb Career Academy received a grant to help fund a boot camp technology training course designed for women and people of color, who are underrepresented in the technology field.

AFFW grants help increase opportunities for education and family-sustaining jobs for underserved people who identify as women.

AFFW awards grants to Dane County 501(c)(3) organizations with a programmatic focus on women's economic empowerment. AFFW has adopted a letter of inquiry process for its grant applications.

Grantmaking Focus and Eligibility

AFFW seeks inquiries from Dane County 501(c)(3) organizations with a programmatic focus on women's economic empowerment. AFFW is interested in increasing opportunities for education and family-sustaining jobs for women and people who identify as women, especially:

  • Women of color
  • Single mothers ages 18-40 and girls with adult responsibilities
  • Women living in poverty and unstable economic conditions
  • Women adversely affected by the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those in poverty-wage jobs with weak benefits and low or volatile hours
  • Women and girls who hope for a more stable future in which they can both provide for their families’ basic needs and save for future economic goals

Projects eligible for funding may include, but are not limited to, workforce development, education programs (not individual scholarships), mentorship programs and support services.

To be eligible for a grant from AFFW, organizations must:

  1. Be exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
  2. Conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, age, marital status, disability or national origin
  3. Be located in Dane County

Grant Application Process

Organizations wishing to apply for a grant in 2022 must submit a letter of inquiry by 4:30 p.m. on May 31, 2022.

AFFW’s grantmaking process begins with organizations submitting a Letter of Inquiry (LOI). The AFFW Advisory Committee and MCF staff will review these letters to ensure the organizations are eligible to apply and that the requests align with AFFW’s mission and vision. LOIs should be sent as an attachment to an email to grants@madisongives.org by Tuesday, May 31, 2022 by 4:30 p.m. Please include your organization’s name in the email subject line.

Organizations with approved LOIs will be invited to submit a full grant application by Wednesday, June 22, 2022. The deadline for full grant proposals is Wednesday, July 20, 2022 by 4:30 p.m.

The Advisory Committee will review the grant applications and forward recommendations to the Board of Governors, which makes the final decision on funding at its October meeting. Grants will be announced on September 1, 2022.

If you have any questions about the grant application process, please contact Angela R. Davis.
